Watch Norman Atkins and Dr. David Steiner Answer: Are There Schools That Can’t?
In a riveting panel as part of our Forum last year, Norman Atkins (founder and CEO of Teacher U and founder and former CEO of Uncommon Schools) and Dr. David Steiner (New York State Commissioner of Education) discuss what separates school that can from schools that can’t. Successful schools have teachers who are empowered to take collective responsibility for each child and they don’t work in silos. Steiner explains that while we know what strategies work when trying to turn schools around — e.g. break them into smaller schools — it is no easy task and there is no silver bullet. Atkins and Steiner also discuss the future of common core standards and assessments.
