Holy Family School Celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Through Reading

March 2 just so happens to be Dr. Suess’s birthday. To commemorate the man behind “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” and many other delightful stories, Holy Family School celebrates Read Across America, a day dedicated to the simple, yet imaginative activity of reading. Since 2007, the Chicago school has opened it’s doors to donors and friends to read one-on-one or in small groups to small children from pre-K to second grade. Participants make the holiday even more colorful by wearing the iconic red and white striped hat from “The Cat in the Hat” while reading. “We believe that sharing an entertaining book with an adult is an invaluable experience for a child. It reinforces the importance of making reading a lifelong habit. That’s the foundation for all academic success,” says John Mjoseth, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Holy Family Ministries which directs HFS.
