In a recent issue of Upscale Magazine, two of our schools were listed in the same ranks as Phillips Academy Andover, Horace Mann, and the Trinity School. We are very proud to learn that the Trey Whitfield School of Brooklyn, NY and E.L. Haynes Charter School of DC were listed in the top 20 private and charter schools identified by Upscale Magazine in its October issue, featuring Michelle Obama on the cover. These schools made the magazine’s “Honor Roll,” a list of high performing schools Upscale recommends for readers to send their children. Download the feature here. Keep up the great work!

The Founder and CEO of the Trey Whitfield School has also received a very honorable recognition for her work. Janie Whitney was named one of Brooklyn’s Women of Distinction 2011 by The Brooklyn Paper. The piece on Janie shares the story of her school, which is named after her son, a top rated high school basketball player on a full scholarship who was killed at the age of 18 in a boating accident. Janie has become a crusader for “providing scholarships, helping children to further their education, cultivating young minds into [the] mover-shakers of tomorrow, and continuing the memory of [her] son, Trey.”
