ABOUT THE POSITION:

STC Newark is looking for a full-time Manager of School Programs. This individual will lead various real-world learning programs with K-8 schools and community partners. S/he will also help build relationships with and support our network of K-12 district, charter, and independent schools by sharing resources, meeting annually with network school leaders, and connecting our schools with opportunities for their students and/or staff.  

This is an ideal opportunity for an exceptional leader with a strong passion for advancing innovation in urban education, specifically in Newark. S/he must be detail oriented, extremely responsive, highly motivated, knowledgeable about the Newark education landscape, and able to work both independently and with a wide range of stakeholders/individuals. 

STC Newark’s Manager of School Programs will report to STC Newark’s Executive Director and will be a member of the STC team. Major responsibilities include:

Program Development and Management:

  • Implement and lead STC’s Design Day Challenge & Celebration, an annual program for middle school students, teachers, and community members
  • Serve as lead administrator of the Victoria Public School Grants Program that supports public schools in strengthening college and career readiness programs; this includes coordinating all four intermediaries, assisting with technical assistance sessions, creating and leading a grant application review committee, serving as the main contact for all grantees, and reviewing all reporting requirements
  • Manage and support a service learning program in partnership with Prudential  at 5 schools across Newark through partnership with Prudential’s Spirit of Community office
  • Develop and implement STC’s Maker Fellow Program with K-5 schools in Newark to provide training and ongoing support to teachers interested in facilitating student-centered maker education
  • Collaborate with Manager of Career Skills on implementation of the Prudential Newark Math Initiative collaborative
  • Participate in program task force meetings and collaborate with colleagues across the country to design and implement program evaluation tools
  • Support additional STC Newark programs as needed

Network Engagement and Expansion:

  • Maintain regular, open lines of communication with participating schools, leaders, and teachers to strengthen relationships and stay abreast of each school’s needs/strengths
  • Share specific and/or targeted opportunities with schools in the network that will help expand real-world learning
  • Track school participation in STC programs 
  • Help maintain and grow the STC Newark network of schools, including conducting school site visits, annual meetings with school leaders, and collecting school data
  • Document emerging best practices at participating schools to highlight throughout STC network
  • Create and publish STC Newark’s monthly programming e-newsletter

Organization Operations:

  • Be an active member of the STC Newark team, including supporting the Executive Director and Manager of Career Skills with other STC Newark events or initiatives as needed
  • Participate in STC staff meetings; be available to support other STC national events or initiatives as appropriate
  • Be responsive to all communication, including submitting finance reports or other necessary documents by stated deadlines

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience working in the nonprofit and/or education sector; experience in schools preferred
  • Passion for ensuring that all children – particularly traditionally under-represented students – access high quality educational options 
  • Stellar communication and interpersonal skills; very responsive to emails, calls, and other forms of communication
  • Excellent at completing timely follow-up from meetings and discussions (ex: sending out meeting minutes, keeping shared folders updated, etc.)
  • Proven history of effectively building relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience successfully managing multiple projects to meet goals and priorities 
  • Focus on outcomes with a drive to go above and beyond to push projects forward 
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; able to create structure out of ambiguity and solve problems on own initiative
  • Ability to work well both independently and with a team; skilled in identifying and leveraging others’ skills to realize goals
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment; adaptive, optimistic, diplomatic

  • Proficiency in common technical tools (Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Dropbox) required; proficiency in specialized digital tools (SalesForce, SurveyMonkey, MailChimp) preferred
