Javier Tapia, associate professor of education at the University of Milwaukee, aids predominately Latin school in developing their Spanish language program. The St. Anthony Catholic school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will participate in a Spanish language pilot program starting from the third grade this fall.

The school’s president Jesus Rodriguez was inspired to begin this project since many Hispanic students who attend English-only educated schools usually fail to develop their bilingual skills. Tapia believes it will have a significant impact on the Hispanic community and in Milwaukee. “I see St. Anthony as a school with a human heart,” he says.
