This semester, Schools That Can is excited to welcome two interns from South Bronx Community Charter High School to our team! Over the course of their internships, students will be launching an interview series to talk to their classmates and teachers about career readiness. During this internship, they will to develop professional skills, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to meaningful communications projects. We can't wait to support their work!
Luvany Thomas is an 11th grade student who attends South Bronx Community Charter High School. Luvany was born and raised in the Bronx and comes from a Hondurian and Guatemalan background. He loves spending time with family and friends and is proud of his heritage. Luvany has volunteered in community service at his church. Throughout these experiences, he has enhanced great communication skills and is a hard worker who’s not afraid to use these skills in any part of the environment or community. Luvany aspires to be a successful lawyer in the future, one who defends immigrants who migrate for better opportunities and criminal justice.

What’s your favorite subject/class in school, and why?
My favorite subjects in school are History and ELA. I love these two subjects because I can relate to what we’re reading. I connect with the characters, and I love learning about the past as well, including learning about displacement, urban renewal, different time zones.
What’s your favorite activity you’re part of (or hobby you do), and why?
My favorite hobbies are cooking flour fried pancakes with refried beans and sour cream for breakfast, as well as tacos and pasta, playing sports like flag football and soccer, and listening to music. These hobbies are a huge part of my life because they help me express myself in many different ways.
Do you know what kind of jobs you’re interested in pursuing in the future? If so, what jobs and why?
My top 3 jobs are becoming a lawyer, doctor, or the Navy or Air Force. Criminal justice really interests me. I want to go to college to learn more about criminal justice, and be a lawyer to defend immigrants who come to the United States for opportunities. I would also like to become a doctor to help patients, and study and major in the medical field to work with babies and children. Finally, I am also interested in being either a Navy or Air Force crew member. I want to help others and become very successful in life with an amazing career.
