STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to Schools That Can's e2e Career Readiness Curriculum, STC supports students through multiple hands-on initiatives designed to encourage career-connected learning, build skills, and engage in real-world work experiences.

About the Students That Connect Symposium

Launched in 2025, the Students That Connect Symposium is a day-long event where New York City high school students engage in hands-on challenges, hear from industry panels, participate in networking activities, and showcase their skills to employers, educators, and community leaders. Recent themes include Exploring AI and Future-Proof Me!

STC Symposium is currently active in New York. Want to join us for the 2026 STC Symposium? Email here.

Design Challenge

STC's Design Challenges bring together teams of students to engage in design thinking challenges to solve local community problems.  Local businesses and industry professionals provide authentic project briefs, mentor student teams, and evaluate final presentations,  giving students hands-on experience and direct employer visibility. Previous Design Challenge partners include the Obama Foundation, the Newark Alliance, Grow with Google, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, Newark Symphony Hall, Tree Pittsburgh, the Obama Foundation, Chicago Architecture Center, and Panasonic.

Design Challenge is currently active in Pittsburgh. To inquire about Design Challenge, email here.

The Student Opportunities e-Blast

The STUDENTS THAT CAN Student Opportunities Blast is a resource designed to connect students with meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom. The newsletter curates opportunities for students, including internships, career exploration programs, enrichment programs, professional development opportunities, and more. The e-blast brings together a diverse range of opportunities from organizations across New York City and beyond, giving students a centralized place to discover ways to build skills, explore careers, and strengthen their college and career pathways. The Student Opportunities e-Blast is provided to schools partnering with Schools That Can.

Schools That Can Internships

Schools That Can hosts cohorts of interns within the organization. Students from Pittsburgh, Newark, and New York have worked virtual internships in communications with STC, building skills in writing, researching, interviewing, and social media management. In addition, students build valuable workplace skills including time management, collaboration, professionalism, and more. Schools That Can has also worked with schools to ensure internships help students meet graduation requirements.

Feedback on the 2025 STC Symposium

“From the feedback that I got from the students, [The Design Day Challenge] was an invaluable experience to see how the stuff they learn in the classroom connects to something in real life.”
